今日は、毎回英作文を書いてくださるYさんの作品をご紹介します。
英作文：オンラインでの全角入力と半角入力についての考察です
Foreigners often encounter frustration when creating documents in Japan because they have to use both full-width and half-width characters.
When filling out an application form an online shopping site, it is common to specify full-width and half-width characters, such as “enter full-width addresses” and half-width zip codes.” I hate it because sometimes input errors occur and it annoys me too.
This system was not intentionally designed to be difficult, the reason behind this complexity lies in the history of Japanese digitalization. Since early computer systems were designed for English, which uses only single-byte characters, Japanese had to adopt a two-byte system for its characters. To save space, a half-width version of the same characters was also introduced, leading to the mixed usage we see today. This can be seen as a legacy of past technological limitations that has remained in the present day.
Is there no alternative solution than to use the tools effectively?

外国人が日本で書類を作成する際、全角と半角の両方の文字を使わなければならない時に 不満を感じている。
通販サイトの中の申し込みフォームなどを入力する時によくあるのが 「番地の入力は全角」「郵便番号は半角」といった全角と半角の指定だ。 入力エラーが出て、私はイライラして嫌いである。
このシステムは意匠的に難しく設計しているのではなく、日本のデジタル化の歴史がある。 初期のコンピュータシステムは1バイト文字のみを使用する英語用に設計されている。 日本語の文字にバイトシステムを採用する必要でスペースを節約するため、一部の文字 の半角バージョンが導入され、混合値用につながったらしい。過去の技術的制限の 遺産が現代に残ってしまった結果と言える。
